China opposes Japan’s bid for permanent UNSC seat after Taiwan remarks
China has publicly opposed Japan’s bid for permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council, stating that Tokyo is not suitable for such a position. The remarks were made by a Chinese representative following comments by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi concerning Taiwan. Beijing reiterated its long-standing position on Japan’s wartime history and regional conduct as factors in its opposition.
